WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?
Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are small, thin blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin, often on the legs and face. With incompetent valves, increased pressure and weakened membrane walls result, veins become lumpy and twisted in appearance called varicose veins. Spider veins are usually smaller branches of varicose veins appearing red and blue in color. These veins are harmless, but many people become self-conscious about and therefore, people who seek treatment for varicose and spider veins are usually due to a cosmetic concern.
Real Patient Before and After.
HOW ARE SPIDER VEINS TREATED?
At Epiphany Medspa and Wellness, we use Asclera to treat spider veins! Asclera is a type of sclerosing agent that is commonly used to treat spider veins. Sclerosing agents are substances that are injected directly into the affected veins, causing them to close and eventually be absorbed by the body.
Using a very fine needle, we will inject the Asclera into the veins. The veins will immediately begin to disappear and get better as the days go on. It may cause some mild stinging and tenderness, but it will heal nicely.
WHAT IS THE AFTER CARE FOR SCLEROTHERAPY?
Immediately after the procedure, you may have some tenderness in your leg. We encourage you to walk as much as possible in the coming days to keep your blood flowing. You will also need to wear compression stockings. Wearing compression stockings after the procedure significantly contributes to quick and even closing down of the veins.
IS IT SAFE?
Sclerotherapy is FDA approved and, in many cases, can be used as a primary treatment for varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy is less invasive than other traditional methods such as vein stripping leading to less downtime and recovery time. At Epiphany Medspa & Wellness, our typical sclerotherapy treatment takes approximately 15 minutes per area.
